ARNE JACOBSEN FIELDTRIP - OXFORD

Oxford’s dreaming spires? Not for Absolute Zero Degrees. Keith and Mark headed to Oxford in August, to hunt down the modernist campus of St Catherine’s College, designed by Arne Jacobsen.

The modernist design, characterised by strong geometry, became one of the first five post-war buildings to be given Grade 1 listed status, and has matured, with its verdigris copper panels and weathered concrete, to create a cooly sophisticated environment.

Together with the SAS Royal Hotel and the National Bank of Denmark headquarters, St Catherine’s is regarded as one of Jacobsen’s architectural masterpieces.
